Martin Swan b.1951 A.R.S.M.A. Martin Swan was born in Newport, Isle of Wight in 1951 and was educated at Carisbrooke Grammar School. He studied Environmental Sciences at university in Ireland and, later Philosophy and Religious Studies at the University of Wales, from which he graduated in 1981. His abiding love, however has always been drawing and painting and instead of pursuing the academic life that beckoned, on leaving university he concentrated on becoming a professional artist Having originally established a strong reputation as a landscape painter, Martin is increasingly recognised as a marine artist. He has a particular interest in the Solent between the wars and the great yachts that sailed there during that time. Martin has exhibited extensively on the Island, along the South Coast and in London where he has been made an associate member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists. In 1987 he was featured in the B.B.C.2 arts programme "Painters" This autumn during October and November Martin has an exhibition in Auckland, New Zealand to coincide with the America's Cup. |
