Martyn Mackrill was born in 1962 on the Isle of Wight to a family linked closely to the sea. He trained in Portsmouth and Sunderland before becoming a professional marine painter. Martyn Mackrill paints mainly period yachting and shipping scenes many based on the Solent and South Coast.
